This section of the river is a salt water (Maribyrnong means saltwater river in Wurrendjerri) urban reach just 5 kilometers out of Melbourne seen in background. It is heavily fished by recreational anglers for Bream, Mullett, Mulloway and Eels and Snapper for eating by locals.The tidal river banks are stabilised by bluestone to prevent erosion after the river was straightened in the 1930's.
